The best works of art in history in the hands of George Clooney.

The "Monuments Men" in the title of the new film by George Clooney (and never better, considering that Clooney wrote the screenplay, and also directed and starred in the film) are not a new type of superhero, however much they're so fashionable today. Although you could say that they're "old superheroes" for the epic adventure that they experienced, as you'll see in Monuments Men.

Monuments Men adapts the non-fiction novel of the same title written by Robert M. Edsel, in which the author tells "the fascinating adventure of art warriors that prevented cultural plundering by the Nazis." They are the Monuments Men of the title - played by actors like George Clooney, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman and Jean Dujardin, among others, as an unusual battalion of the Second World War that Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered on an almost suicidal mission: sneak behind German lines to retrieve all the artworks stolen by the Nazis during the war.

An almost impossible task: the German army orders were to destroy absolutely everything as the Reich fell, and the Monuments Men were not even professional soldiers, seven museum directors, curators and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than an M1 rifle ...
